Author of Getting Paid to Drink and Gamble

Jeff ‘Pigeon’ Collerson joined the late Sir Frank Packer’s Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph in 1962.

In 1968 he was poached by legendary racing columnist Pat Farrell to become the greyhound writer on Rupert Murdoch’s Daily Mirror. When Murdoch later bought the Daily Telegraph, Jeff became the paper’s greyhound expert. In 1988 he added a wine column and wine reviews to his duties. Hence the title of his 2005 book Getting Paid to Drink & Gamble which was also released on audio tape. Later,Jeff was also appointed one of the Telegraph’s two restaurant reviewers. In 2006 Jeff’s 44 year contribution to greyhound racing was acknowledged when the NSW National Coursing Association inaugurated a new annual Wentworth Park race called simply ‘The Collerson’. Jeff is also the host of one of radio’s longest running sports programs, ‘Going Greyhounds’ heard Thursday mornings on 2KY.
