Ray Gatt became a cadet journalist with the Daily Telegraph in 1972.

He subsequently worked for the Sydney Morning Herald, the Sydney Sun and Australian Associated Press, covering a wide range of sports. Ray has been the chief soccer writer at The Australian newspaper since 1989. He has covered the last seven Socceroos World Cup campaigns including the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa. Ray’s close friendship with the Socceroos first World Cup coach, Rale Rasic, led to him writing Rale’s biography, The Rale Rasic Story in 2006.
