Robert Drane

Author of Fighting the Demons


Robert 'Bob' Drane is an experienced journalist, columnist, author, editor, screenwriter and broadcaster with numerous awards to his credit. He is the author of 'Go Girl' a biographical/success book written with Natalie Cook, the Sydney Olympic Games beach volleyball Gold medalist. He teamed up with boxer Kostya Tszyu to write a fitness book and DVD titled 'Fighting Fit'. He also co-authored an AIS publication 'Celebrating Excellence' based on interviews with 25 of the greatest Institute of Sport athletes of the last twenty-five years. In 2007 he wrote 'Fighting the Demons' the life story of troubled boxer Lester Ellis. His latest book is 'Fighters by Trade' a history and sociology of Australian boxing.

Bob has been a Contributing Editor to Inside Sport magazine since 1992. Amongst his many achievements he was the winner of the Australian Sports Commission Media Award in 2007 for 'Best Reporting of an Issue in Australian Sport', and was short listed for a Walkley Award in 1999.
