Jack Gibson

Author of The Last Word

From 1967 to 1987, the late Jack Gibson coached at six rugby league clubs—Easts, St George, Newtown, Souths, Parramatta and Cronulla.

He gained his greatest fame with his premiership-wnning teams at Easts (1974 and 1975) and Parramatta (1981 to 1983). Wherever he went, he was recognised for the way his teams played their football and also for his honesty, wise counsel and shrewd thinking. Gibson leant heavily on coaching philosophies from America, but also on his very Australian character, his dry wit and his unique powers of observation and innovation, to build a reputation as one of the most effective mentors Australian sport has ever produced.
